NK Wins "Best Use of Materials" at IIDA Fashion Meets Finish Event

Last week, NK Architects participated in the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) PA/NJ/DE chapter’s annual Fashion Meets Finish Event. This event encourages creativity at its finest by allowing teams to design one-of-a-kind garments made completely out of interior design products. This year’s theme, “We Make Space,” was inspired by the IIDA reminding designers that they are the future of creative and innovative spaces.

Our team name “Daǧ’ Yama” represented our chosen theme interpretation – origami. Daǧ’ being Turkish for mountain and Yama being Japanese for mountain. The mountain folds upon the dress articulate the ancient craft of origami that has been used for centuries in couture, architectural design, and even outer space design. The design of this dress reflects that the tradition in a contemporary aesthetic can move the tradition into the future.

NK utilized materials from Koroseal Interior Products and 3form to create a beautifully handmade dress. Our very own interior designer, Eylem Gurbuz, walked down the runway showcasing the final product. The color combination of blues and greens gave this dress the necessary pop and vitality it needed to win “Best Use of Materials”.
