Mike is a Licensed Architect with a passion for healthcare architecture and evidence-based design. He holds a Masters of Architecture degree from Texas A&M University with a Certificate in Health Systems and Design. The CHSD is the world’s largest interdisciplinary program dedicated to research, innovation and education focused on healthcare facility planning and design. Mike utilizes the knowledge he received from CHSD to deliver the best possible solutions to his clients.
Prior to NK, Mike honed his construction and architectural skills in the United States Army, 5th Special Forces Group (A) where he served as Engineer Section Sergeant accountable for the training, development and welfare of the engineer squad in the Iraq Theater of Operations. As a veteran, he is passionate about working on VA projects to help improve quality of care and speed of delivering care, as well as provide innovative, adaptable designs for emerging types of acute injuries and chronic diseases. Mike is a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He has received the 5th Special Forces Group Soldier of the Year Award, as well as Runner-Up in the United States Army Special Forces Command Soldier of the Year. He has also participated in several events for CANstruction and Homeless Solutions.
Outside of the office, Mike enjoys cooking (which can be witnessed and enjoyed at NK’s Annual Blacktop BBQ), golfing, softball, scuba diving and the occasional skydiving trip. He met his wife through a pen pal exchange that he had organized with his sister’s sorority to correspond with the younger soldiers of his group in Iraq.
